As an adult, the thought of laying on the beach, listening to the waves crash, is very appealing. Not so much for kids. Kids can easily get bored and they’re more than happy to tell you about it. This can make relaxing a bit more difficult. Thankfully, there are a number of family friendly beach activities that your kids will love.
Family Friendly Beach Activities
Beach Ball Bounce Game
This is super simple. You’ll need a beach towel and a medium-sized ball. One person holds one end of the towel and another person holds the other end. You flip the towel to get the ball to fly in the air, but you must keep the ball from dropping to the ground. It’s a fun game that will keep kids busy for a little while. It’s also fun for adults and a good workout for your arms.
Beach Darts
Another fun idea is to draw a dartboard in the sand. You can make it really simple with just five rings. The center is worth the most points and each circle out from the center is worth less. You can use pebbles found at the beach as your darts. Just toss the pebble and try to get the highest score.
Beach Mosaic
We all know that sandcastles can be a lot of fun, but what if your kids are tired of sandcastles? Another great activity is to make a beach mosaic. Collect seashells and pebbles as you walk up and down the beach and then find a wet patch of sand to create a picture using the shells. This inspires creativity and can help pass the time. Not to mention that it’s a very relaxing beach activity.
Kite Flying
Flying a kite can be fun for people of all ages. This activity is best suited for days when it’s slightly windy. Don’t buy kites at local gift shops along the beach. These are way overpriced. Before heading to the beach, hit your local Dollar Tree for some inexpensive kites with your kids’ favorite characters on them. If your kids REALLY enjoy flying kites, you can later invest in more expensive models.
Volleyball
A number of beaches have volleyball courts. This is a really fun way for the family to enjoy the sun and sand. You can face off girls against boys or parents against kids. Just have fun with it. If volleyball isn’t your thing, you could play badminton instead. You can find inexpensive equipment for both sports.
Beach Bottles
Last, but not least, make your own beach in a bottle. This is a great way to upcycle a plastic or glass bottle. Fill the bottom with sand and seashells from the beach you’re visiting. This is a fun DIY souvenir that allows you to take a bit of the beach home with you. Just don’t let your kids open it later because the smell after a few days can be unpleasant.
There are so many inexpensive family friendly beach activities to choose from. Whether your family loves sports or crafts, there are so many fun things to do at the beach.
