One of the highlights of the holiday season for many of us is the attractive and happy sight of bright and twinkling lights all around.
Christmas lights put a smile on our faces and remind us of celebrating a special time of the year with family and friends. Unfortunately, the time will come when you have to pack them away and start counting down until the next time.
Of course, you install permanent Christmas lights so that they are then to brighten up your surroundings whenever you want. In the meantime, when it comes to packing away temporary lights safely and securely, here’s some tips to help you.
The right storage options
The first thing you need to do is plan how you are going to best store your lights . Find a sturdy storage container that can protect your lights from damage and keep dust, dirt, and moisture from getting in.
As well as having a strong and sturdy storage box to keep your lights in, it would be a good idea to invest in some added extras like cable ties, and labels. Being able to secure your lights inside the box so that they are ready to be used again with ease, is a great idea. Labeling everything too, will take the stress away when you open the box next Christmas and start to prepare for another festive period.
Inspect your lights and clear any tangles
Spending a bit of extra time inspecting your lights and removing any tangles will be an action that is rewarded when it’s time to get them out again.
Many of us have experienced the frustration of unpacking the lights and spending ages trying to untangle them, or discovering that a couple of lights aren’t working properly. You can avoid all of that hassle by inspecting your lights and untangling them before securing them with cable ties, and packing them away neatly.
Wrapping your lights the right way
You don’t have to suffer the frustration of discovering a tangled mess when you come to unwrap your lights again. All you need to do is wrap your Christmas lights the right way.
The way to do this would be to stretch them out in a straight line. Next, start winding them around your hand in a loop, working from one end to the other. Once your lights are neatly organized in a loop, use some cable ties to ensure that they stay that way.
Make sure you don’t wrap the lights too tightly when doing this, as this could damage them.
Label everything
Last but not least, you can save a lot of time and aggravation if you label all of your boxes with clear information on what is inside. When it’s time to get everything out for another festive season, all of your hard work labeling everything, and preparing your lights for storage properly, will pay off handsomely.
As well as taking the time to pack away your lights with care, you might also want to think about investing in permanent Christmas lights. Having this will brighten your home all year round, whenever you want, and save a lot of hassle when the festive period looms on the horizon.
