Healthy Strawberry Banana Smoothie

When I want a fruity drink that’s not just full of empty calories, I make myself a smoothie. And normally I add a bit of sweetener to it, but with this recipe, you really don’t need to. This healthy strawberry banana smoothie is perfectly sweet just as it is, and it’s made with almond coconut milk and Greek yogurt, so it’s good for you without adding tons of calories. That’s a lot of calcium, protein and a healthy dose of fruit in each serving, folks!

And, to be honest, this is a great way to help my kiddo fit in a little more calcium and protein. While he loves fruit (strawberries and bananas are his favorites, actually), he’s not crazy about yogurt and doesn’t drink milk nearly as often as he used to. But put those ingredients in a blender to make a colorful, tasty drink? He’s all over that. And who can blame him? It’s delicious.

Kid-Friendly Strawberry Banana Smoothie

If you can, freeze the fruit and fruit juices first. It only takes a couple of hours to get them nice and frozen, and it makes a big difference in the consistency of the smoothie. Unfortunately, our strawberries were only partially frozen here, so we had to add some ice. If your fruit is frozen, you should need little to no ice. No one wants a watered-down smoothie, after all.

This healthy strawberry banana smoothie recipe makes two large servings (two big mason jars full), but if you’re making them for the kids, you’ll have 4 servings easily. Top them with whipped cream and fresh strawberries to finish them off.

Love how super healthy and easy this one looks, Donella!

I've made this kind of smoothie a lot but never thought to add orange juice to it. Must give it a try sometime! I'm guessing it doesn't really affect the taste as the other ingredients make it creamy in texture?

It adds a little tartness (and texture, since I like OJ with pulp).

You can get them just about anywhere... I got these at Food Lion (our local grocery chain), but they're also at Walmart, Target, party supplies stores, etc.

We love smoothies in this house and the best thing I ever bought was a nutribullet. I've never put yogurt or orange juice in them though so I'll definitely have to try it. Thanks Donella!
