Ingredients for Making Fruit Butterflies

bananas, strawberries, candy eyes, and rosemary twigs for making butterfly fruit snacks

You can probably see from the picture everything that you need to make these cute butterfly snacks, but here’s a list of ingredients, just in case:

  • Bananas – sliced, to make the butterfly’s body
  • Strawberries – halved, used to make the butterfly wings
  • Candy eyes
  • Rosemary twigs – for the butterfly’s antennae

How to Make Healthy Butterfly Snacks:

slicing the bananas
arranging the fruit pieces to form butterfly snacks

Step One: Slice the banana. You’ll need 12 slices for 3 butterfly snacks, and you can usually get this many slices out of one single large banana.

Step 2: Halve the strawberries. You’ll need 4 strawberry halves per butterfly to make the wings.

Step 3: Remove small pieces from the rosemary twigs to make the butterfly antennae. Place them above the banana slice that forms the head.

Step 4: Add two candy eyes per butterfly to the head. Your cute snack is ready!

Okay, so perhaps the candy eyes aren’t exactly nutritious, but the other ingredients are. This butterfly-shaped snack is a total win-win for kids. Strawberries are little vitamin C powerhouses, which is awesome for keeping the kids’ immune systems in tip-top shape, not to mention they’re like nature’s candy but with a bonus of good-for-you antioxidants. And bananas? They’ve got potassium to help their hearts stay strong and their muscles working right. Plus, they both keep those tiny bellies full longer since they’re packed with fiber.

If you don’t want to include the candy eyes, though, you can always replace them with blueberries or small bits off of blackberries. Make sure your little one doesn’t take a bite of the rosemary. It’s taste-safe, of course, but fresh rosemary springs aren’t that tasty unless they’re incorporated in a dish like these rosemary and thyme potatoes.
